Welcome Knowlan Photography: A Fresh Face in Uptown Jackson’s Creative Community

We’re thrilled to introduce another wonderful new business joining the Uptown Jackson family — Knowlan Photography, owned and operated by talented photographer Courtney Knowlan! Specializing in portrait photography for families, newborns, and children, Courtney brings a warm, minimalistic, and heartfelt approach to capturing life’s most precious moments.

A Passion Turned Profession

Courtney began her journey in a different but equally inspiring field — music education. After teaching for 10 years, her love for photography blossomed as she prepared to welcome her first child. What started as a hobby (and some humorous attempts at newborn photos on auto mode!) quickly grew into a true passion.

With encouragement from family and a commitment to learning, she took courses and sought mentorship that transformed this interest into a thriving business. Today, Courtney is grateful to pursue a career she truly loves — capturing the beauty and stories of families through her lens.

Why Uptown Jackson?

Being a Jackson native, Uptown holds a special place in Courtney’s heart. The neighborhood’s vibrant local business scene and sense of community inspired her to establish her studio in Suite 2 of the Strickland Building. This location offers the perfect blend of charm, accessibility, and connection to other creative entrepreneurs.

Her studio space is designed to make clients feel completely at ease. From thoughtful conversation and gentle guidance to playing music and offering snacks, she creates a relaxed and fun environment — especially for little ones!

While Courtney stepped away from wedding photography a few years ago, Knowlan Photography still happily captures intimate love stories when the moment feels right. Whether it’s a cozy family session or a small wedding, her goal is to provide meaningful images that last a lifetime.

Fun fact — she loves that Ground A Bout is just a short walk away, perfect for treating her clients (especially sleep-deprived parents!) to their favorite caffeinated pick-me-up.

A Fun Tidbit

Here’s something you might not know — Courtney is also a yodeler! Her first time singing on stage was at a Homecomers event right here Uptown, a quirky skill she still pulls out for karaoke fun.
